Top Celebrity Car Collectors

Some people buy cars purely out of practical reasons – to drive their kids to school, to go to work, to go on trips and other similar activities. Others buy cars because they consider them to be works of art, and collect them passionately, as you would collect paintings or sculptures. Car collectors often get carried away with their hobby and end up owning far more cars than they actually need and usually most of them get driven only a couple of times a year. Nevertheless, there are a lot of people who can afford this expensive hobby and have large collections of up 10, 50, or even over 100 cars. Some of the most notable collectors are Hollywood celebrities or members of some royal families.

There are a couple of names that must be included in every car collectors list.

The first one that should be mentioned is definitely the famous talk-show host and comedian Jay Leno. He is as famous for his collection as he is for his comedic skills. He owns about 200 cars, and is one of the rare people that drives nearly every car of his collection. He has all kinds of cars, from classic American muscle cars, to sports cars and supercars, all the way to electric cars. Some of the most eye-catching cars in his garage are: the two Koenigseggs, a few McLarens, about 20 Jaguars, a lot of Bugattis, Porsches, the inevitable Ferraris and of course a lot of vintage Chevrolets and Fords.

Talking about comedians and their passion for cars, we must not forget Jerry Seinfeld. Unlike Leno, who owns cars from dozens of different car makers, Seinfeld has concentrated on collecting one specific type of car – the superfast and super-stylish German sports car Porsche. He keeps his cars in a hangar in Santa Monica that he rents. He owns a couple of 911’s, a Porsche 550 Spyder, a few Boxsters, the famous Porsche 959 and a ’73 911 RSR that he has said is one of his favorites.

I’ll round this list up with the clothing mogul Ralph Lauren. He is the creator of the Polo brand, that has earned him billions of dollars. His collection of over 60 cars includes some very rare models, such as a Bugatti Atlantic Coupe, a McLaren F1LM, a Bugatti Veyron, a Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing.
